Azede Jean-Pierre was born in Haiti, raised in Atlanta and educated at the prestigious Savannah College of Art and Design. Upon graduating she studied under master American couturier Ralph Rucci and the modern womenswear brand Ohne Titel. In 2012, she started her eponymous ready-to-wear line, which is based in New York City. The 27-year-old’s whimsical designs, which often feature eye-catching prints, bold colors and embellishments, are a reflection of her love for her native country Haïti, nature and its juxtaposition to the urban jungle. Jean-Pierre describes her line as walking “the line between fashion and art, femininity and edge.
The 27 year old designer was recently featured on the prestigious list of entrepreneurs 30 under 30 Forbes list who are making a difference in the business world.
Jean-Pierre’s collection has been worn by many celebrities. Her most famous client is First Lady Michelle Obama who wore a dress fromJean-Pierre’s collection on the cover of Essence Magazine.
On October 8, 2014 , Azede Jean-Pierre was among guest invited to the White House by the First Lady to participate in the inaugural Reach Higher Initiative – Fashion Education Workshops. Jean-Pierre was selected (along with Diane von Furstenberg, Zac Pozen, Naeem Khan, Maria Cornejo, and the Marchesa women) to participate in a workshop with students. A group of 150 students from 12 high schools and two colleges from five states and Washington D.C., were invited to spend the day attending five seminars, where they would hear from assorted professionals about different aspects of the business, including construction, wearable technology, entrepreneurship and journalism. The guest were also invited to attend the Celebration Of Design cocktail party that evening.
Another big fan of Azede Jean-Pierre is Solange Knowles. The actor/singer has worn Jean-Pierre’s design on several occasions.
Lady Gaga was also spotted wearing a piece from her collection.
