First Haitian Woman to Obtain a Commercial Pilot License

 

 

The Ministry of Tourism of Haiti, confirmed that the International Air Rally will officially stop in Cap Haitien, Haiti on April 23rd  and 24th ,  April 2016. The event offers a tremendous promotional opportunity for Haiti, since the rally receives coverage worldwide.

Marie Yves Montima, a young Haitian woman pilot will represent Haiti in the rally. Montima was invited by the organizers of the Air Rally to take control of a plane. She was alongside her mentor a young woman teacher from Texas, used to Bombardier, one of the sponsors  in partnership with the International air Rally, Sunrise Airlines and the Ministry of Tourism of Haiti .image

At only 24 years of age, Marie-Yves Montima hold a title as the first Haitian woman to obtain a commercial pilot license. Marie-Yves was noticed in March 2010 at a press conference given by Aviation Connection while doing a check of a Cessna 172 aircraft with her instructor.

Selected by Reginald Auguste to receive support from the “Haitian Education Foundation of Aerospace”, she was the first pilot to be fully funded by FHEAA receiving her pilot license from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Recently she was invited to attend the convention of the WAI (Women in Aviation International) by Patty Wagstaff a great American star aerobatics with which she flew after obtaining her Private Pilot License.

 

imageNew to the program this year, a group 31 aircraft from 10 different countries and continents, will land in Cap Haitien. Haiti prepares to celebrate its young pilot who has invested much effort and through many challenges to become a pilot, supported by the Haitian Foundation of Aeronautics Education.

Montima is an inspiration to young people of Haiti and around the world. It is proof that where there is a will, there is success no matter the obstacles. The young pilot received a warm welcome in the city of Cap-Haitien, Haiti.

Marie-Yves Montima proudly wear the colors of Haiti throughout the Cup of the Governor General Rally Caribbean. She will cross seven countries, she will cross over a period of 13 days.

 

 

 

The 7th edition rally around the Caribbean was organized by the Ministry of Tourism of Haiti. The event brought Minister of Tourism Guy Didier Hyppolite to Cap-Haitien, as well as the Ambassador of Canada in Haiti.

At the family compound near the city of Cap-Haitien a gathering of press, visitors and most importantly her family took place to celebrate Montima’s participation in the rally. Members of the surrounding community, came to support Montima as she continues to be an exemplary young professional in Haiti.  Today, Mayor Yvon Alteon of Cap-Haitien bestowed the young pilot with the key to the city.
